CITIZEN COMMENTS
Dear Mr. Bartell:
Thank you for putting me in touch with Eber Brown. I have spoken to him on January 28th and again today about the lights being left on at the baseball field and the all purpose field at Grand March Avenue in Homosassa.

When I spoke to him today he promised to look into the lighting situation again.  He seems very responsive. YOU ARE THE MAN TO GO TO for problems in Homosassa.

Thank you again for your help.

"THE MAN TO GO TO"
"A TRUE STATESMAN AND NOT A POLITICIAN!"
I have known Gary for a few years and have found him to be very upfront and honest. He impresses me in the fact that he truly votes for and promotes what he thinks is best for the citizens of Citrus and the area in general. He has always voted for what he truly believes is right and not for the most popular. He is A TRUE STATESMAN AND NOT A POLITICIAN! I may not always agree with him but I will vote for him to stay in office.
Richard Naylor,  Homosassa, July 6, 2010
"THE "GO-TO" GUY TO GET THINGS ATTENDED TO"
Gary is by far the best commissioner we've had in the 30 years we've been in Citrus County.  He is definitely THE "GO-TO" GUY TO GET THINGS ATTENDED TO.
Helen Long, Homosassa, June 30, 2010
"A 24/7 COMMISSIONER"
I am supporting Gary Bartell because he is always there for everyone.  I have been his friend for 15 plus years and have never known him to be too busy for the littlest problem that someone might have.  He is A 24/7 COMMISSIONER!!!
Carole Rogers, Lecanto, June 29, 2010
"FAIR AND KNOWLEDGEABLE"
Gary Bartell is the most honest and trustworthy politician in the county. He is FAIR AND KNOWLEDGEABLE and an all around great guy.

"DEPTH AND BREADTH OF KNOWLEDGE... IS ENORMOUS"
Gary Bartell has proven his value as Commissioner for District 2 and Citrus Countians are fortunate that he has agreed to run for re-election.

I worked for Gary for 2-1/2 years when I was Secretary to the Board for Citrus County and in this capacity I was able to observe his attention to the details of county business and his ever present concern for the citizens of our county.

Gary is A FULL-TIME COMMISSIONER and I mean full time ... evenings, weekends, you name it. Gary can always be reached to help out with any type of county issue.  There were some days he called me more than ten times to get a satisfactory answer for a citizen.

That's not all - Gary's DEPTH AND BREADTH OF KNOWLEDGE REGARDING ISSUES CONFRONTING OUR COUNTY IS ENORMOUS. Ask him a question concerning water resources, land development, legal and legislative issues, roads, airports, grants or personnel. He knows the answer. He has strong relationships with all our legislative delegation in Tallahassee and knows where to go for the answer to any question.

In these confusing times, we need stability.  Gary Bartell offers that, and much more.

"FULL-TIME COMMISSIONER"
The Citrus County Board of Commissioners is a group of public servants who without question have good intentions and are of good moral character. Not a killer or rapist among them.

Although not exactly one of my fishing buddies, one STANDS HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE THE REST. A STATESMAN, NOT A POLITICIAN! One who has taken a consistent long term position on an unpopular but real problem. Septic systems in coastal areas are without question wrong. Do some research, make a decision and, as Larry the Cable Man says, “Get ‘er done."
"Citrus County Commissioner Gary Bartell, a VETERAN OF WATER ISSUES, was there as a voting delegate representing Citrus County and the other 66 counties of the Florida Association of Counties.

Besides apparently knowing almost everyone, he seemed to be THE GO-TO PERSON for other delegates.

He was a big help to me but more importantly he was a major help to our cause. His position of not just letting the "water czar" concept die but insisting on killing it, was a great success. Allocation and transfer also died.

"FAIR, HONEST, AND APPROACHABLE... A MAN OF HIS COMMUNITY"
I support Gary to be County Commissioner because of his personal interactions with his community.  Party affiliations and politics are important but especially in local offices someone who actually represents the feelings of the local population.  Gary is FAIR, HONEST, AND APPROACHABLE and will help residents with anything he can.  He is A MAN OF HIS COMMUNITY.

"RESPONDS WITH RESULTS"
One e-mail to Commisoner Bartell about a huge pot hole that damaged an outdoor writers's boat trailer axle.  The next day the hole was filled.  He reads and RESPONDS WITH RESULTS.

"EXPERIENCED, KNOWLEDGABLE"
He is a very EXPERIENCED, KNOWLEDGABLE man who is very APPROACHABLE AND CARES A GREAT DEAL ABOUT THIS COUNTY AND THE CITIZENS WHO RESIDE HERE.

"SERVING THE PEOPLE"
The reason for our support for Gary Bartell for County Commissioner can be summarized in two words: ...EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE.

Although the two may be synomyous , they are different when it comes to SERVING THE PEOPLE.  Gary's temperment, willingness to listen to ideas, availability to citizens, and love for Citrus County have been an overwhelming benefit for Citrus County.  Understanding that the mood of the public is to "replace the incumbents."  However, THIS IS ONE INCUMBENT WE NEED TO KEEP

"EXTREMELY RESPONSIVE; TRULY CARES ABOUT THOSE HE REPRESENTS!"
Since we moved to Citrus County in 2002, Gary has been the one we turned to with any question or issue concerning local government. He has always been EXTREMELY RESPONSIVE; sometimes within the same day. He is a representative who TRULY CARES ABOUT THOSE HE REPRESENTS!
Beth Darr, Riverhaven, July 8, 2010
These traits make Bartell, a Republican from Homosassa, the obvious choice in the District 2 race with Democrat Phil Mulrain of Lecanto.

Bartell has shown that he can handle many important issues at once. Rather than being sidetracked, he sees how they all fit into the larger picture of the future of Citrus County. From road and sewer projects to impact fee adjustments and public safety matters, Bartell knows that they are all pieces of a common mosaic.

It's this vision that separates him from his opponent in the general election and makes him a leader on the board of commissioners.

Bartell is a firm believer in adhering to the county's comprehensive growth plan, not just the letter of the growth management blueprint but its intent, as well.

Where other commissioners seek ambiguities in the plan to cover their actions, Bartell is faithful to the document's spirit -- which is not to halt development or to take away property rights but to manage the inevitable growth that will occur here.

To that end, Bartell has been a key player in the most controversial development issue in Citrus County in recent years, the proposal to build a timeshare condominium project along the Halls River in Homosassa.

Having an extensive knowledge of environmental, public health, safety and growth matters, Bartell has been one of the loudest voices questioning the project's viability. He also acknowledges that thousands of people in the county have protested the plan and has lived up to his obligation to represent those people's concerns.

Unlike some commissioners, he honors the responsibility that the comprehensive plan gives the board to have the final say, through compatibility, on whether a project can move forward. Even if a developer has met the legal requirements, commissioners can say no if they believe that it is simply not a good fit. Bartell has demonstrated the courage to take that stand.

Relying on an inaccurate report in the Citrus County Chronicle, Phil Mulrain has tried to paint Bartell as having flip-flopped on the issue. He maintains that Bartell at one point in the process supported a scaled-down version of the Halls River Retreat. A tape recording of the meeting on which that news report is based proves differently.

This is typical of Mulrain's candidacy. He offers little more than unsubstantiated complaints about Bartell, bereft of any fresh ideas or suggestions of how he would have done any better. On the Halls River project, for instance, Mulrain says he has no opinion.

Mulrain applauds Bartell for perhaps his biggest accomplishment in recent years, orchestrating the efforts to fund the ongoing sewer and water projects in the Homosassa and Chassahowitzka area.

Those efforts demonstrated Bartell's broad knowledge of how state government and factors beyond the county's borders and its control can impact Citrus, as well as his ability to win over legislators from around the state to support Citrus projects. His work earned him recognition in July from the Florida Association of Counties as the county commissioner of the year for the state.

Bartell is quick to point out that those important projects would not have succeeded without the many citizens who have helped along the way.

On issues such as the proposal to require mandatory garbage collection in the county, the need for impact fees to reflect the true costs of growth, and whether the Suncoast Parkway should be extended through Citrus County, both candidates agree. The difference is that Bartell can clearly articulate how these and other matters influence the quality of life in Citrus County.

In recent years, Bartell has often found himself on the losing end of 3-2 votes by the commission on important questions. Rather than being discouraged, Bartell welcomes the opportunity to continue battling for the best interests of Citrus residents.

Based on his solid record of hard work, accomplishment, attention to detail and accountability, Bartell has earned a fourth term on the County Commission. The Times recommends that voters return him to the board.
